No one likes to think of the need for life insurance, but it’s important to provide for your loved ones in case the unthinkable happens to you. That’s why this complimentary coverage for teachers is so important to you and your family. It helps provide insurance protection to your family to help cover large financial obligations such as mortgages and college costs, as well as final expenses.


You’ll receive four levels of coverage

  • $1,000 of life insurance

  • Up to $5,000 of Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage; $1,000 per year benefit up to maximum

  • $50,000 AD&D benefit for any covered accident that occurs on the job or while serving as an Association Leader

  • $150,000 Life Insurance benefit for unlawful homicide while on the job

Register today

  1. Make sure you’re logged into your NEA Member Benefits account. Register for or update your Complimentary Life Insurance by clicking on the “Name Your Beneficiary” button.
  2. Once you register, you will receive hard copies of all official information for your records. Claims can be processed by calling the Member Advocacy Center at 855-NEA-LIFE.

NEA Complimentary Life Insurance is life and AD&D insurance guaranteed to active, staff, reserve and life members at no cost to you.* Student members are not covered. Coverage is automatic; however, members are encouraged to register a beneficiary with NEA Member Benefits.

Registering your beneficiary will ensure that the benefit amount is paid to the family member or person you stipulate. Having a beneficiary also makes it easier to expedite payment in the event of a tragedy. If you do not select a beneficiary, at your death the benefit will be paid to the first surviving beneficiary listed in the following order: surviving spouse; surviving children; surviving parents; surviving siblings; your estate.

Members in good standing who are actively employed in the field of education receive $1,000 of term life insurance, up to $5,000 of accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) coverage and up to $50,000 of AD&D insurance for any covered accident that occurs while on the job or serving as an Association leader.* Since the inception of the program, $27.5 million has been paid out to members.
Another important part of NEA Complimentary Life Insurance coverage is the homicide benefit. NEA Complimentary Life Insurance pays up to $150,000 when an unlawful homicide takes the life of a member while on the job.

No. This coverage is at no cost to you. NEA Complimentary Life Insurance, along with all NEA Member Benefits’ products and services, is self-supporting.

Depending on your circumstances, it may be advisable to supplement this coverage with other affordable life insurance products tailored to your individual needs.

NEA Accidental Death & Dismemberment provides ACCIDENT insurance only. It does NOT provide basic hospital, basic medical or major medical insurance as defined by the New York State Department of Financial Services.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: THIS POLICY DOES NOT PROVIDE COVERAGE FOR SICKNESS.

* NEA Retired members are eligible for the $50,000 Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage only while acting on Association business in the capacity of an Association Leader.
